Monday Morning Momentum: Why I Showed Up at a Cold Plunge and Yoga Party

It was a Sunday. My son and I decided to go to a cold plunge and yoga party. If that sentence made you raise an eyebrow, good. That's exactly the kind of sentence that comes out of a life built around experiments.

This is what we do at KindEdge. We show up for the new thing. We test it. We find out firsthand whether it belongs in our life or not.Because the alternative is staying comfortable, staying stuck, and watching the same year repeat itself until it becomes a lifetime.

So on Sunday we went. On Monday morning I'm sharing what happened. And it was a lot more than just a cold plunge.

The KindEdge Truth: One Big Goal Redesigns Your Entire Life

Before I get into the cold water, I want to set the context. Because this isn't just a story about surviving an ice bath. It's about something much bigger.

At KindEdge, we work toward one big, audacious life goal. Maybe that's running a marathon. Starting a business. Writing a book. Moving toa new country. Changing careers. Whatever your version of a massive life upgrade looks like.

Here's what nobody tells you when you set that goal: you don't just change one thing. You change everything.

If you want to become a marathoner, you have to change the people in your life, your daily habits, your daily rhythms, and even the objects around you. You might need a different car with a trunk that fits your training gear. The goal pulls everything else into alignment.

And yes, that sounds like a lot. But here's the other side of it: when your whole life starts orienting around your goal, everything gets better. You find people who are aligned with where you're going. You build daily rhythms that actually serve you. The chaos that used to hijack your energy starts to dissolve because you've redesigned the environment around a purpose.

This is what KindEdge Phase Two is about. And experiments are the engine that drives it.

Why Experiments Are the Foundation of Real Life Change

I already have hot power yoga woven into my life every other day. It's not a habit I'm trying to build anymore. It's just part of who I am by default. That didn't happen because I read about yoga. It happened because I tried it, loved it, kept showing up, and eventually it became my new normal.

That's the full arc of an experiment done right:

•       You try something new

•       You notice how your body and mind respond

•       You iterate, adjust, go back, or move on

•       If it sticks, it becomes part of your daily foundation

•       Your foundation supports your big goal

•       Your big goal becomes your new life

The cold plunge was the next experiment on my list. I'd done one cold bath in the fall with my other son. I lasted about two minutes. I wanted to go back and try again with better preparation, a better setting, and a better mindset.

The Cold Plunge: What Actually Happens When You Get In

The event was a cold plunge and yoga party. We got an outdoor yoga class with music, which was its own gift. And then came the plunge.

My first attempt I made it two minutes. This time I made it over six. Six full minutes in cold water, and I'm counting that as a win.

What the Cold Plunge Feels Like From Inside the Tub

Cold plunge veterans will tell you: the first minute is the hardest. Your body's initial response is pure alarm. Your breathing tightens, your mind screams at you to get out, and every instinct is pointing toward the exit.

But if you hold still and breathe through it, something shifts. The water that your body has warmed around you creates a small buffer. You find a rhythm. And at some point you stop counting the seconds desperately and start just being in it.

One thing that helps enormously: movement disrupts that warm buffer your body creates in still water. If the water circulates, it constantly pushes colder water against your skin, which is why circulating cold plunge setups are significantly more intense than still water tubs. We talked about this in the tub. Good intel for next time.

The Community Element Nobody Talks About

Here's what surprised me most: doing the cold plunge with other people completely changes the experience. There were people in that tub encouraging each other, laughing, calling out time, pushing each other to stay in one more minute. The energy was ridiculous in the best way.

When you invite in new experiences, you invite in new community. And a new community becomes part of your new default mode. That's not a side effect. That's the whole point.

A Note on Body Confidence: This One Is Personal

I want to add something here because it felt important enough to include in the video, and it belongs in this post too.

You may notice in the footage that I have extra skin on my stomach. I want to talk about that, because I love it, and I think that's worth saying out loud.

A surgeon once offered to remove it. And I asked him a very simple question: if you sewed up my stomach tight, could I still do full backbends and walkovers in hot yoga? Could I still do my full ballet stretches? Could I still jump and dive backwards off a boat into the ocean?

He said no.

I said: keep your projects for someone else.

That extra skin on my stomach was made by my beautiful nine-pound baby, who is now a healthy 6'4" athletic F1 motorsports engineer living a beautiful life in Oxford, England. That skin is a gift and a memento from the two greatest gifts of my life. I have zero shame for it.

This is what body confidence actually looks like in practice. Not performing acceptance for the camera. Not shrinking yourself because the internet might judge. Genuinely choosing the version of your body that lets you move and live and dive off boats and do backbends and show up fully to your life.

I love me. I hope the internet loves me for loving me. And I hope you take that into your own life too.

Some of them become occasional tools in the toolkit. All of them teach you something about who you are and what your redesigned life looks like.

The only rule: do the new thing. Stop overthinking it and get in the water.

You will find that oh, this is something I want on the regular. Or you will find that it's not for you, and that's equally valuable data. Either way, you move forward. Either way, you are building the foundation of the life you actually want.
